A team of Food Safety Officers, led by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Food Safety Kashmir, conducted an inspection of the facilities of Eve Enterprises at Parimpora after receiving information that raw dressed chicken imported from outside the state is being sold in the market in violation of the Food Safety Standards Act, including the failure to maintain a cold chain.

The inspection crew confiscated 10 quintals of the chicken, incinerated the whole batch then and then, and took samples for later use in court. Because of the unsanitary conditions, the building was shut for the safety of the public.

Businesses dealing in imported raw poultry and meat are now notified that they are required by law to adhere to all applicable provisions of the Food Safety Standards Act.

With the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, the push will be ramped up in the following days.

Meanwhile, the public is reminded that if they see any such infraction, they may report it using the anonymous tip line (toll-free number) 104.

High-risk foods include raw meat, poultry, and seafood. All meat products lose quality and become potentially dangerous to human health if they are not sold, stored, and distributed in accordance with prescribed temperature (-18 C for protracted storage and 0-5 C for short storage).

Therefore, the general population should likewise implement these procedures at home to ensure the safety of all beef products.
