7 June, Jammu: Mayor Rajinder Sharma of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) stated that the early release of money for the Corporation in the final week of May would enhance the developmental activities inside the municipal bounds, and that he is committed to providing maximum governance in the lowest time frame.

The Mayor of JMC anticipates that the works may begin in the month of July now that the funds have been received on schedule. Better planning may have made this feasible; formerly, money was frequently lost because it was delivered too early in the month of August.

He said that the JMC will do an estimate early in the month of September, that bids would be announced in October, and that allotments would be made in November. Consequently, he said, the money would often disappear.

His exact words were, “However, it was the first time that the JMC got 50 percent of the budget outlay in the last week of May, 2023.” As he addressed the press, he remarked, “Now we have got 10 months to work on the projected works within a time frame to complete them.”

To improve the city, the mayor said, “We have given Rs 70 lakhs per ward for the developmental works and we have set a timeline to complete work i.e. 4 months that will benefit the general masses and we would utilise the released funds completely with no chance of lapse in funds.”

He gave figures showing that in 2018, Rs1.43 crore (capex) was spent on all 75 wards that JMC got, and in 2019, Rs1.63 crore was spent on the same amount. The outlay was Rs 8 crore in 2020, while Rs 38 crore was spent the following year in 2021.

“In 2022, it was Rs 107 crore expenditure, and this year, the JMC’s target is over Rs 150 crores expenditure,” he added.

He said that wiser forethought and preparation had made the early funding feasible to carry out high-caliber development projects.
