The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open on Wednesday, June 7th, for two-way travel of light and medium passenger cars and one-way traffic of heavy trucks between Ramban and Kashmir.

However, according to reports from traffic officials, the Jammu Srinagar section of NH-44 was closed for a total of seven hours and forty minutes over the previous 24 hours up till 5 pm on Wednesday.

They said that the highway was closed for 45 minutes while potholes were patched at Dalwass, for 3 hours and 32 minutes while the Chenani-Nashri tunnel was closed, and for 3 hours and 23 minutes while the Banihal-Qazigund tunnel was closed. They said that five big trucks broke down and nomads and their cattle were forced to walk long distances, slowing traffic between the Nashri and Banihal tunnels.

Ramban personnel who oversee traffic flow said that hundreds of private automobiles, passenger light and medium and heavy trucks, and emergency vehicles have used the Nashri-Banihal segment of the highway to go where they need to go.

Heavy vehicles are reportedly making their way through the Ramban-Banihal region to reach Kashmir in a controlled manner.

Following an assessment of the traffic and road conditions along NH-44 on Thursday morning, the traffic department issued a new advisory, stating that, barring adverse weather conditions, light motor vehicles would be permitted to move on either side, while heavy motor vehicles would be permitted to travel from Qazigund, Kashmir in the direction of Jammu.
