Nov. 9, Kupwara: To alleviate the struggles encountered by educators, learners, and the general public, the people residing in Qaziabad, in the Kupwara district of north Kashmir, have called for the creation of a distinct school zone for their community.

The villages in Upper Qaziabad are linked to the Qalamabad Zone, which the locals claim is unfair, while the communities in Lower Qaziabad have been retained within the Langate Education Zone.

To the dismay of those who must travel a considerable distance to access the Langate Zonal Education Office and of those who must travel thirty kilometers to have their voices heard, residents of Qaziabad, a vast area, claimed that Qaziabad has not been assigned a separate education zone.

In Qaziabad, there are approximately 140 government and private schools operating, employing over 400 educators. Since our region satisfies the requirements for a distinct school zone, I cannot understand why we are subjected to discrimination and denied one,” a resident told Greater Kashmir.

Residents claimed they had often brought this matter to the attention of relevant authorities, but despite the passing of many years, nothing significant has been done in this respect.

The residents have asked the lieutenant governor to get involved in this matter and have pushed the department’s senior officials to create a distinct school zone in Qaziabad.
