December 21, Srinagar: On the 36th anniversary of his passing, novelist, dramatist, and short story writer Ali Muhammad Lone was honored.
In December 1987, Lone lost his life in an automobile accident in Indira Nagar, Srinagar. Several literary luminaries and cultural institutions honored Lone, who was regarded for penning some of the most well-liked plays of his day.


Lone, who was born in Drugjan in Dalgate, held positions as Deputy Secretary of the Cultural Academy of Jammu and Kashmir and Assistant Producer at Radio Kashmir. The progressive writers’ movement, which gave rise to giants such as Rahman Rahi, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, the late Ghulam Nabi Faraq, and others, produced Lone. Lone was a writer of tales and novels, but his specialty was tragedies. He succeeded where no other playwright from Kashmir had before.

Lone discovered his artistic outlet at Radio Kashmir, where he began as a clerk and, through hard work and perseverance, was eventually promoted to assistant producer and screenplay writer.

Taqdir Saaz, by Lone, gained a lot of popularity. In 1971, he also authored the historical drama Suyya. Lone is the author of several plays, novels, and short tales. His well-known Kashmiri book, Asi Ti Chi Insaan (We Too Are Humans), is written by him. In Kashmiri theater history, his radio serial “TeVyeth Rooz Pakaan” (And tranquil flows the Vitasta) was a seminal work.

Lone joined the Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages in 1965 after working at Radio until he resigned as deputy secretary in 1981.

Lone went on to compose more than 150 plays, radio plays, short stories, and theatrical plays throughout the course of his almost 40-year career. In addition, he wrote two books in Kashmiri and Urdu, titled Aes Ti Chi Insaan and Shahid Hai Teri Aarzoo, respectively. In addition, he is well-known for being the writer of the first Kashmiri feature film, “Meanz Raath.”
