December 23, Srinagar: Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a politician from Kashmir, has been named by the Indian National Congress as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for Jharkhand, with an additional responsibility for West Bengal.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our CPP Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi Ji, Congress President Mallikarjun @kharge Ji, and Shri @RahulGandhi Ji for reposing faith in me and appointing me as General Secretary of AICC,” Mir said on the microblogging platform “X.”

The AICC in-command of the UP Congress, Congresswoman Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was stripped of her duties, while Sachin Pilot was named in charge of the Chhattisgarh Congress. Ramesh Chennithala has been designated as the Maharashtra AICC in-charge.

Additionally, Deepa Dasmunshi has been appointed General Secretary of Kerala and Lakshadweep, with added responsibility for the Telangana Congress, and Sachin Pilot has been named General Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Congress.

Notably, from 2015 until his resignation in July 2022, Ghulam Ahmad Mir—a native of Dooru Shahabad, Anantnag—held the office of President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee. (
