Srinagar, October 25: The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar expresses its great sadness over the government’s limitations on the religious activities of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq.
In a statement, the Anjuman stated that it is sad that the government is preventing Mirwaiz from delivering the Friday prayer at Jama Masjid Srinagar and otherwise preventing him from carrying out his religious obligations.
The statement claims that Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir was prevented from visiting Aastaan Aaliya Peer Dastgir Sahib Khanyar today to give a sermon in conjunction with the Urs of Hazrat Peeran-e-Peer Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA). Even before that, Mirwaiz was barred from entering the Peer Dastgir Sahib Sarai Bala Srinagar for the Seerat Majlis.
According to the Auqaf, this is the sixth year in a row that the authorities have arbitrarily kept Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir imprisoned in his home and prevented him from fulfilling his religious duties.
The Anjuman said that many people had travelled to Aastaan Aaliya Peer Dastgir Sahib Khanyar to hear Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir’s speeches, but after learning of his arrest, they left in dismay.
The Anjuman said that the government’s actions were completely unreasonable and undermined its pretence of normality. (The Kashmir Today)
