Sopore, September 18: As darkness falls, public transit stops operating on the roadways, making it difficult for commuters in Sopore, north Kashmir.
Locals claim that late-night commuting availability of public transport, such as buses and minibuses, causes issues for government workers, businesspeople, students, and other local commuters.
People said that the issues were worse for commuters in the Zaingair belt villages of Dangerpora, Duroo Hardushiva, Warpora, Watlab, Seer Jageer, Tarzoo, and Janwara, forcing them to pay high taxi fares.
“Each year, the issue becomes worse as winter approaches. Even at 6:30 p.m., it is still dark, and there are no signs of any kind of transportation around. The administration has not made sure that there is public transit available in the evening, according to Jehangir Ahmad, a local resident of Dangerpora.
He said that most individuals who work in offices or marketplaces cannot afford their own cars and therefore depend on public transit on a daily basis. The authorities have ignored the situation despite repeated appeals, he said.
ARTO Sopore promised that steps will be done to prevent any inconveniences for commuters.
