Srinagar, September 10: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party President, Member of Parliament from Srinagar Dr Farooq Abdullah, and Vice President Omar Abdullah have greeted people on the occasion of the Annual Urs Observance of Mehboobul Alam, Sultan Ul Arifeen Sheikh Hamzah Maqdoomi (RA), hoping that the day will increase the prospects of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Kashmir’s contribution to Sufi mysticism in immense and great polymaths like Hazrat Sultan Ul Arifeen with unrivalled spiritual standing nurtured it from time to time,” Dr Farooq remarked while welcoming people. These outstanding guys had a high level of commitment, selflessness, and austerity.”

He went on to say that Hazrat Mehboobul Alam (RA) belongs to the same clan of great persons who went to great lengths to bring Kashmiris to righteousness by setting an example. “On this auspicious eve, I pay my heartfelt and lavish tributes to this great son of the soil, Hazrat Sultan Ul Arifeen (RA), and pray to Almighty Allah that the day brings peace and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir.” The lessons of such great leaders have much to offer today’s young and future generations. Urs observances like this resurrect the dominant cultural identity that has led us all, and our forefathers tied them together with solidarity and friendship amid the hardest of circumstances. “I hope that this auspicious Urs renews and strengthens the bonds of brotherhood among the various sections of people in JK,” he remarked.

While welcoming visitors, Omar Abdullah said that the shrine of Hazrat Maqdoom Sahib (RA) is a spiritual destination for thousands of people in Kashmir. He said that outstanding figures like Maqdoom Sahib (RA) had a huge impact on Kashmir’s cultural and social life. “He nourished humanity’s sacred mission.” His purpose was to provide comfort and relief to the suffering people of Kashmir. He urged people to pursue lives of piety and discipline, emphasising that the true devotion of the Almighty was in the service of the suffering man. The great saint advised people to avoid pride, wrath, greed, desire, and a preoccupation with earthly matters. He had reached the pinnacle of spiritual refinement and self-awakening. “May the Almighty’s grace be upon us and our descendants; the need of the hour is to imbue the teachings of such noble and pious men as Hazrat Maqdoom Sahib (RA),” he stated.
