Baramulla, Nov. 1: Reflecting the police’s commitment to the fight against drug addiction, the Baramulla police have arrested 356 people under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and registered 242 cases in the last ten months.


Without providing specifics, a Baramulla police officer said that seven further people had been taken into custody under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act/PSA in order to curb unlawful trafficking.

In addition to three residential homes, three cars, and a sizeable sum of money ($1.2 crore), he claimed that the freezing of property worth an astounding Rs 2.3 crore was a major victory in this fight.

“The police official stated that the property was frozen after adhering to the legal process.”

198.692 kg of poppy straw and cannabis powder have also been confiscated by police, in addition to 2.67 kg of brown sugar, 4.527 kg of heroin, and 11.808 kg of charas that have been discovered so far, the police official added, providing specifics of the substances that have been captured during the last ten months. The police have also taken custody of 31 cars worth around Rs 59.04 lakh and Rs 1.13 crore in cash.

“The police official stated that the estimated value of the illegal goods that were apprehended from the international market is in excess of Rs 3.47 crore.” “In addition to the value of the contraband, the seized vehicles, and the cash, the total value of the seized property in the current year amounts to Rs 12 crores and 68 lakhs,” the speaker said.
