According to Jeff Pu, a tech analyst at the Hong Kong-based investment company Haitong International Securities, Apple’s next iPhone 15 Pro Max would probably cost more than the company’s previous Pro Max model.
The bigger of Apple’s two forthcoming Pro models, according to Pu’s most recent research note, will cost more than the $1,099 starting price of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Pu has previously advocated for price hikes for the iPhone 15 Pro versions, but this is the first time he specifically mentions the Pro Max as being more expensive.
Pu doesn’t explain why, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max is anticipated to include a periscope lens in addition to a bigger battery and display than the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro. Both Pro models’ three cameras will include telephoto lens technology, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max is most likely to be the only model with a periscope lens, which will offer 5x to 6x optical zoom, a significant advance above the 3x magnification on the iPhone 14 Pro models.
A primary lens is often used in a periscope lens system to take the picture, and then the light is reflected 90 degrees by a prism or angled mirror towards a secondary lens, which then feeds it to the image sensor. In order to increase focal length, the image sensor and secondary lens are mounted horizontally within the smartphone, taking up precious surface space.
In his most recent letter, Pu also said that he expects the iPhone 15 series to begin mass production in August. If this prediction pans out, it would be consistent with prior years, when Apple has introduced its iPhone range around September. In the second half of 2023, according to Pu, Apple will mass manufacture 84 million units, with the two Pro versions expected to be the most well-liked products in the portfolio in the first months following release.
The Dynamic Island, a USB-C connector, and a slightly more curved frame are said to be included in all four iPhone 15 versions, while the Pro variants are said to have 12 extra features and modifications.
