It has been noted in a circular that some visitors to Gulmarg are setting up makeshift tents on lush meadows and hill stocks for overnight stays without obtaining the necessary permits from the appropriate Authority.

Srinagar, July 08: The CEO of the Gulmarg Development Authority has requested that all interested parties get the necessary permits before setting up tents at the world-famous ski resort.

It has been noted in a circular that some visitors to Gulmarg are setting up makeshift tents on lush meadows and hilltops for overnight stays without obtaining the necessary permits from the appropriate Authority.
The circular states that the authorities take this violation of the Development Act of 1970 very seriously because it has led to the destruction of greens and the accumulation of excess waste, which puts tremendous pressure on the manpower and inconveniences the tourists.
The permit letter alone should express the different dos and don’ts related to the installation of temporary tents within Gulmarg’s authority. It has been noted that tent installations in Gulmarg have caused law and order issues on occasion and that cooking over open flames or with makeshift stoves poses a serious health risk.
The statement continued by saying that the Gulmarg Development Authority, visitors, and tourists should all follow the rules and regulations and get permission before installing tents to prevent any untoward incident, fix the aforementioned problems, save the lives of the tourists, and maintain the fragile eco-environment in the area. —(KNO)
