Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) and a former chief minister, has sent her deepest condolences in response to the tragic passing of veteran Kashmiri journalist and well-known author Ghulam Nabi Khayal.

Mehbooba said in a statement that Khayal Sahab’s sorrowful passing has left a vacuum in Jammu and Kashmir’s literary scene.

“Ghulam Nabi Khayal Sahab was an accomplished author and journalist who devoted his life to advancing knowledge and Kashmir’s rich cultural legacy. He made many substantial contributions to the literary and journalism fields, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to motivate future generations of authors and journalists, she added.

Mehbooba Mufti sent her deepest condolences to Khayal’s friends and family and prayed for his soul to find everlasting rest.


Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, the head of the CPI (M), has expressed his profound sadness and grief at the passing of poet and writer Ghulam Nabi Khayal. He described the damage to Kashmiri literature and language as irreversible.

The late Ghulam Nabi Khayal was an accomplished author of more than a dozen novels. He brilliantly conveyed the complexity of society through his writing. I send my sincere sympathies to the grieving family and friends, said Tarigami in a statement.
