On Friday, September 8th, in New Delhi, India and Bangladesh expressed their gratitude for the implementation of the system to settle bilateral commerce in Indian rupee and urged the business communities of both countries to take advantage of it.

Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, met to discuss a wide range of issues related to their countries’ bilateral ties, from politics and security to trade and connectivity to water and energy resources to development and cultural exchange.

According to government sources, the latest regional developments and multilateral cooperation were also addressed.

The two heads of state were also enthusiastic about starting discussions on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to regulate trade in products and services and safeguard and encourage investment.

The leaders applauded the completion of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline and the implementation of the agreement on using the Chattogram and Mongla Ports.

They were happy with the results of their development cooperation projects and hoped to inaugurate future initiatives together at a mutually agreeable time.

The openings of the Agartala-Akhaura rail connection, the Unit-II of the Maitri power plant, and the Khulna-Mongla rail link are just a few examples. They also praised the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the Bangladesh Bank for exchanging memoranda of understanding to boost bilateral collaboration in digital payment methods.

India and Bangladesh recently renewed their agreement to continue their Cultural Exchange Programme (CEP) for the years 2023 and 2025. Further reports indicated that an agreement between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC) was close to being approved.
