Kargil, Sep 12: Qamar Ali Akhoon, a prominent politician from Kargil, Ladakh, and a former cabinet minister, has been chosen Additional General Secretary by the National Conference (NC) Party.

This is the first time a Ladakhi leader has been entrusted with this duty at the highest level of the party. Akhoon, a prominent National Conference leader, has a long history with the organisation. He formerly served as a representative for the Kargil seat and was a cabinet minister in the former state of Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Omar Abdullah.

Akhoon, a well-known political figure from Kargil, Ladakh, had previously advised Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the chief minister at the time. Akhoon served as the first Chief Executive Councillor for the Kargil office of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in 2002.

The National Conference’s Kargil leaders have welcomed Qamar Ali Akhoon’s appointment as additional general secretary and have thanked the party’s top leadership, which includes NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah. It is the first time a leader from Kargil has been chosen additional general secretary of the party, according to district president of NC Kargil Haji Hanifa Jan, who also said that it would improve the spirits of party members. He cited Qamar Ali Akhoon as a superb example of leadership and commitment.
