24 September, Mohali (Punjab), India (ANI): Indian middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav is finally finding his form in ODIs after a protracted slump, which is very positive for Team India ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup at home. During the second game against Australia, he made a bold and courageous statement by hammering Cameron Green for four sixes in a single over.

Surya increased the stakes by hitting a helpless Green for four consecutive sixes in the 44th over of the game as India looked to conclude things on a huge total. The first shot was aimed at deep backwards square leg, the second was towards the fine leg area, the third was a loft over deep extra cover, and the fourth was a flick over deep midwicket.

India finished with 50 overs with 399/5 thanks to Surya’s heroics. In only 37 balls, Suryakumar scored 72* with six fours and six sixes.

Suryakumar seems to be finally deciphering the ODI code. Suryakumar seemed to be developing the form and runs everyone expected him to have after scoring a 49-ball half-century that looked well-constructed and was free of his trademark 360-degree striking. The selectors, who have choices like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Surya himself, and Ishan Kishan for the middle-order heading into the World Cup, have been given quite a dilemma by his 122 runs in these two games of the series. They are all members of the World Cup team.

Suryakumar also scored India’s third-fastest 50 in ODIs, needing only 24 balls to get there. Ajit Agarkar scored his fifty in 21 balls against Zimbabwe in 2000, and he was followed by Kapil Dev, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, and Yuvraj Singh with half-centuries in 22 balls.

Currently, Suryakumar has the following ODI statistics: 659 runs in 29 innings, an average of 28.65, a strike rate of 105.60, and four half-centuries in 27 innings.

Suryakumar has scored 275 runs at an average of 25.00 and a strike rate of above 113 in 13 ODIs this year. In 12 innings, he has two fifty-singles.

Shubman Gill (104 in 97 balls with six fours and four sixes) and Shreyas Iyer (105 in 90 balls with 11 fours and three sixes) both scored centuries for India, who were given the opportunity to bat first by Australia. Half-centuries from Suryakumar and KL Rahul (52 in 38 balls with three fours and three sixes) also contributed to India’s 400-run target.

After winning the first ODI by five wickets, the Men in Blue are presently up 1-0 in the current three-match series.

David Warner, Matthew Short, Steven Smith (batting order), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis, Alex Carey (pitching order), Cameron Green, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, and Spencer Johnson make up Australia’s starting XI.

Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (w/c), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, and Prasidh Krishna make up India’s starting XI. (ANI)
