Oleksii Reznikov, the defence minister of Ukraine, was fired by President Volodymyr Zelensky and announced on Monday that he had sent the head of the parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, a letter of resignation.
Reznikov remarked on social networking platform X, previously known as Twitter, “It was an honour to serve the Ukrainian people and work for the Ukrainian army over the past 22 months, the hardest time in Ukraine’s modern history.

The 57-year-old, who took office as the country’s defence minister in November 2021, said in the letter that he had completed all major assignments during his term.
Zelensky has suggested Rustem Umerov as Reznikov’s successor. Umerov is in charge of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
