Srinagar, March 25: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq laid the foundation stone for a new mosque in Athawajan on Monday. Religious authorities, community officials, and Naz colony Sempora inhabitants attended the foundation laying ceremony.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq spoke on the mosque’s role and the idea of “Jama’at” in Islam as a method to connect with the almighty. He also stressed that Masjid is a center for resolving community problems, whether social, economic, or otherwise. He reminded the faithful that the mosque was the community’s hub where Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) addressed important social concerns.

“Building a mosque goes beyond constructing a place for prayers; it’s about creating a community center that embodies Islamic teachings, fostering a strong, vibrant Muslim community,” Mirwaiz added.

Mirwaiz stressed the necessity for inclusiveness in these new holy places, including praying and gathering spaces for women. “We cannot envision real change in our society or build a strong community without making our mosques welcoming and accessible to women. They must be included if we are to follow Islamic doctrine, he said.
