Workshop in social science research methods takes off at KU for a week

30 August, Srinagar: The University Grants Commission-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC), University of Kashmir (KU), began a hybrid research methodology workshop for the scholars of the Social Sciences on Tuesday to keep up with the latest trends in research and research methodology and to contribute to the development of a knowledge society and informed policy-making.

Forty academics from all over the world, including Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), have gathered for a weeklong session.

Dean of the School of Social Sciences Professor Muhammad Yousuf Ganai has said, “It is a necessity for research scholars to select appropriate methodologies for the research pursuits that will enhance their research outcomes and elevate the research standards.”

He argued that studies in the social sciences are crucial to solving many problems facing modern society.

Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar of the University of Kashmir, spoke on the importance of research in the social sciences in raising societal norms.

When asked about the importance of honesty in the workplace, he responded, “The participants need to do an honest work in their respective fields for not only to make careers but also to make necessary desired changes in the society.”

The workshop’s goal was presented by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Darzi, director of the UGC-HRDC, who also discussed the changing nature of social science research.

He stressed HRDC’s dedication to bolstering educator and researcher training for the sake of promoting career development and the sharing of information in the classroom.

Dr. Saima Farhad, the workshop’s organiser, gave a talk outlining the event’s goals and explaining how the workshop will help social scientists with their research.

Dr. Faheem Masoodi, Coordinator, UGC-HRDC, University of Kashmir, and Dr. K. C. Sharma, Coordinator, UGC-HRDC, presided over the opening session.
