At KU, Saurabh Bhagat launches a groundbreaking 'waste-to-wealth' programme

Srinagar, June 9: On Friday, Commissioner Secretary Saurabh Bhagat of the J&K government’s Science and Technology Department launched a groundbreaking new waste-to-wealth system at KU.

According to a press release from the university, the pilot project is funded by the J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council (JKST&IC), which will take use of the black soldier fly larvae’s exceptional waste processing skills.

It was introduced at the University Landscape Division by E&P Community Farms in conjunction with Abdul Rashid Bhat of EMRC, KU.

As a major step towards a greener and cleaner future, Bhagat praised this “revolutionary” waste management technology. He was optimistic about the new system’s possibilities and underlined the need of creative waste management strategies.

Attendees included Assistant Landscape Officer Dr. Akhtar and Coordinator of the University Landscape Division Dr. Anzar A. Khuroo.

Mounica Kavya Podilapu, CEO of E&P Community Farms, led the charge in constructing the pilot plant that demonstrates the system’s capacity to treat wet waste in a day.

The efficiency gains and environmental friendliness of this cutting-edge waste processing system are enormous. The system’s impressive accomplishments include a 99% time savings in trash processing, an 80% decrease in land requirements, and a 50% reduction in staff demands compared to conventional approaches.
