Srinagar, 14 June Even though forecasters predicted further rain for Jammu and Kashmir till June 17, it poured there on Wednesday.
According to a meteorological department source quoted by GNS, as of 0830 local time today, precipitation totals in the surrounding areas were as follows: Srinagar 11.2mm, Qazigund 1.8mm, Pahalgam 23.4mm, Kupwara 1.4mm, Kokernag 1.3mm, Gulmarg 4.6mm, Jammu traces, Banihal 0.2mm, and Katra 41.6mm.

According to his prediction, sporadic areas of rain and thunderstorms are anticipated today, especially later in the day.

He predicted that scattered areas of Jammu & Kashmir will see moderate rain and thunderstorms from June 15-17. “Some places in Jammu region like Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, Samba, etc. likely to receive moderate to heavy thundershower during 15-16th(60% chance),” he added.

He stressed that the next four to five days would “not” be ideal for spraying orchards.

The low temperature in Srinagar was 15.2 degrees Celsius, down from 16.7 degrees the night before; this was 0.9 degrees Celsius more than average for the city in the summer.

According to him, the temperature at Qazigund, the entrance to Kashmir, dropped to 15.0 degrees Celsius rather than the customary 13.0 degrees Celsius the night before.

He said that the temperature at Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, dropped to 9.8 degrees Fahrenheit (1.6 degrees Celsius) on Sunday night, up from 8.1 degrees the night before.

He reported that the temperature in Kupwara town was 15.2 degrees Fahrenheit, down from 15.9 the night before, and 2.6 degrees Fahrenheit above average for north Kashmir.

The temperature in Kokernag dropped to 13.8 degrees Celsius, the same as the previous night and 1.7 degrees Celsius higher than average, according to the authorities.

He said that the temperature in Gulmarg, a popular ski destination in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, dropped to 7.5 degrees Celsius from 10.2 degrees Celsius the night before.

He reported that the overnight low in Jammu was 25.9 degrees Celsius, up from 27.9 degrees the night before and 0.2 degrees above usual for J&K’s winter capital.

Banihal had a low of 15.1 °C (0.2 °C above normal), Batote of 17.2 °C (1.3 °C above normal), Katra of 18.2 °C (3.9 °C below normal), and Bhaderwah of 11.9 °C (1.6 °C below normal). It was 7.2 degrees in Leh and 12.5 degrees in Kargil, he claimed; both are in Ladakh.
