In the Ramban area of Jammu and Kashmir, a landslip caused damage to a tunnel that was still in the process of being constructed. This event also had a momentary impact on the flow of traffic. There were no reports of any injuries sustained during the event. According to statements made by local authorities that were reported by the news agency PTI, a landslip blocked the sole all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the nation around 1 am when it impacted a 270-kilometer route that was located near Cafeteria Morh. On the Jammu-Srinagar highway, a tunnel is now being built to cut through the middle of a congested section; its completion is anticipated for the following year.
According to the officials, the debris has shut up the entrance to the tunnel that is now under development.
The organisation that was working on the construction of the four-lane highway promptly put both men and machines to work as soon as the landslip was notified, and they were successful in clearing the road of the biggest debris.
The flow of traffic was halted because rocks started falling off of a very small mound at random intervals.
According to the authorities, there was no new traffic permitted to come from either Jammu or Srinagar this morning, and they said that the traffic would be resumed after the stuck cars had been removed.
When shooting stones fell outside of a tunnel in April along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, troops of the Indian Army and several civilians narrowly escaped injury. The incident occurred along the highway.
Rocks that had lately rolled down from a mountain that was located above the T5 tunnel that had been opened in the Ramban region struck several vehicles, causing them to sustain damage.
The roadway was obstructed for a number of hours due to the firing stones.
Due to various landslides that occurred in February, some people were left stuck on the National Highway. The road was damaged in multiple locations.
Since quite some time, work has been going on to build a four-lane motorway that would provide year-round accessibility to Kashmir. This roadway will be accessible in all weather conditions. However, in many locations, chaos has been produced as a result of the indiscriminate deployment of bulldozers to cut down mountains.
