Man dies in Rajouri from fire injuries; police file IPC 306 complaint

A case of aiding suicide has been reported by the J&K Police in Rajouri district in connection with the death of an elderly man from major burn injuries.

Deceased Sain Dass (70), a native of Pathanmorha Dassal in Rajouri, was transported to the GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri after suffering major burn injuries on Sunday night at approximately 8.45 PM. There, medical staff pronounced him dead.

The deceased’s body was taken into custody by the police and deposited in the mortuary of the GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, where a board of physicians performed a post-mortem examination on Monday morning. On Monday late afternoon, the deceased’s corpse was cremated, and final rites were performed.

Family relatives of the deceased, including his son and sister, said that Sain Dass was killed by neighbours because of a property dispute that had been raging for more than five years. They said that Sain Dass was on his way home when the neighbourhood kids grabbed hold of him and afterwards lit him ablaze with petrol.

On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir police claim to have detained the main suspect, and a case of aiding suicide has been filed in connection with the incident.

A person named Sain Dass committed suicide by pouring petrol on himself on August 27, according to an official statement from the J&K Police’s District Police Office Rajouri. When medical personnel arrived at the hospital, they pronounced Sain Dass dead. Sain Dass and his neighbour Pawan Kumar, the son of Shiv Parkash, had a history of land disputes, according to the police.

A FIR 410/2023 U/S 306,109 IPC complaint was immediately filed over the incident at Police Station Rajouri, and accused Pawan Kumar has been taken into custody, according to police.

The Rajouri police said in their official statement that it was further revealed that the dead Sain Dass was not a Pujari of any temple as claimed and that this claim was refuted.
