On August 28, students from the Pahari community in Srinagar protested the delay in scholarship payments by staging a rally in front of the Government Postgraduate College Rajouri.

At the college gate, the students stopped the major route from Kheora to Chowdhary Nar while yelling for the scholarship to be distributed right now.

The protesting students said that whereas students from other classified sections had already gotten their scholarships in the month of June-July, Pahari students were still waiting for their yearly awards in the month of August.

As many students rely on this scholarship to cover their educational costs, they claimed that the delay in the grant’s payout for Pahari students is seriously impeding their regular academic work. College students’ protests resulted in the closure of the major route to all types of vehicle traffic.

The demonstration was then calmed down when Station House Officer Rajouri Aejaz Ahmed Wani and Deputy SP Headquarter Rajouri Mudassir Hussain arrived on the scene. They assured the students that their sincere request will be brought up with the appropriate authorities.

The students cancelled their demonstration after receiving this promise.

On August 27, there were 15 dengue cases; on August 26, there were 14; and on August 25, there were 27.
