Srinagar, Jun 14: A 12th-grade student (name withheld) said on Wednesday that she was punished by JKBOSE and banned from taking tests for two years because of a “mistake made by the concerned examination centre authorities.”
She said that her yearly normal test results show that she has been banned for two years.

The 12th-grade non-medical applicant told the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the people in charge of her test station in the Shopian district of south Kashmir had lost one of her papers and blamed her for it.

“I had just finished my chemistry paper and was on my way home when the superintendent called me out of the blue. “He told me I forgot to sign the answer sheet, so I have to go back,” she said.

During a protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar, the 12th-grade student said, “Two teachers from my exam centre picked me up and took me to school, where they told me I had not turned in the answer sheet for my chemistry paper.” I told them that I had sent it in and that they could even look at it on CCTV.”

“But they didn’t check and instead put the blame on me. Later, the director apologised to me and told me that her answer sheet got mixed up with those of students who were taking a test in one of the arts streams.

She also said, “It’s ironic that, even though they found the answer sheet, I can’t take the 12th standard exams for two years, and it’s not because I did anything wrong.”

The students who are rallying want justice and an investigation into the situation as soon as possible. “My job is at risk, and I’m asking the right people to take action right away to solve my problem.”

CEO Shopian said, “In this case, I talked to BOSE’s joint secretary, who told me that the student had already been asked to explain himself in court. She hasn’t been there, though.”

“Now, the BOSE will ask both sides, including the student and the superintendent, to go to court soon,” he said. “Only then will a decision be made about this.”
